Re: Maxtor Basics 1TB Problem

Try another computer ? Sometimes the PC gets confused.

If I am correct, the 1Tb uses 2 - 500Gb drives as one. The instructions state this and any PC knowledgeable person knows a STRIP system (2 HDs look as one) is bad as failure of one device will make the unit fail.
The option was there to be a mirror 500Gb. One fails, the other continues.
Backup devices should not be used as your only copy.

Re: Maxtor Basics 1TB Problem

Hey, i am having the exact same problem.

I bought my 1tb Basics drive only 5 days ago, and today when I was copying some files from it onto my work PC, the drive died and started to make the humming sound. I can see absolutely no reason why this would have happened.

I have tried mine on 4 different computers and none will detect them. I have been through the troubleshooting section for external HDD's and that was of no help either.

Re: Maxtor Basics 1TB Problem

MrButkus,

You're kind of right, but if there are 2 drives in there getting mirrored, what happens if one of the drives inside fails?  Yes, you still have the other drive inside that works, but you have tear open the case and void the warranty to get the data off the 2nd drive.
Better just to have 2 units with RAID 0 (stripe)...

Re: Maxtor Basics 1TB Problem

Hi, I have this exact drive with this exact problem.

Purchased about a month ago, it ran fine until one day it stopped being recognized.

It does not spin up, and Windows (XP and Vista) onyl recognize it as USB Device, but will not install.

Tried on 3 different PC's.

Tried following all the troubleshooters and installed the SeaTools and everything.

What is the usual solution for getting a replacement drive from SeaGate and also bustin this one open to connect it straight to a SATA port and getting all my documents back?

Cheers.

Re: Maxtor Basics 1TB Problem

Today I experienced a similar problem.

I plugged my Maxtor 1TB Hard Drive (PN: 9NZ2D8-500) back into the mains after a clean-up of my office space and after some initial whirring it failed to spin up properly and all the noise stopped - the LED at the front never came on and the drive doesn't communicate at all with my PC (running Windows XP).  It appears the drive just can't boot itself up, and I don't klnow wht the problem is.  Lots of important information on the drive so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Maxtor Basics 1TB Problem

I bought my 1,5 TB external Drive (9NZ2DR-500) last week and got it yesterday. The drive worked fine and I stored nearly 1 TB data on it. Today i switched my PC (XP) on, but the Maxtor Basics drive was not found. I tried it on another Notebook (Macbook with Mac OS 10.5.6) but also without success. The device manager couldn't find anything, also GetDataBack and testdisk.

It's "good" to see that I am not the only one, because I thought "juhu my Maxtor drive is one day old, and maybe nearly 1 TB data is lost now" :smileysad:

Re: Maxtor Basics 1TB Problem

Here is my problem: My Maxtor Basics Desktop 1000 GB after 15 days don't work any more.

Here are the numbers of my Maxtor:

HD: STM310005EHD301-RK

S/N:2HBEZJYT

P/N:9NY2D8-590

PRODUCTO OF THAILAND

ASSEMBLED IN CHINA

BUT: Inside the box with the Maxtor brand there is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11

Here are the numbers of the Seagate Barracuda:

ST31000333AS

 S/N: 9TE0K877

 P/N: 9FZ136-569

 FIRMWARE: SD35

 DATE CODE:09185

SITE CODE:TK

The serial number checker ( that you find here: http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207931 )

says that my Hard Disk is not affected. This is not the truth, my hard disk has got the same problems of the affected one!

Ok, i don't mind about the hard disk, i just want my data back.

It's your duty to recover all my data free, because you sell me a broken product and you already knew it was broken!!!

The Questions are:

1. Can you repair it and give it me back with all my Data?

2. Can you recover my data as free and change my broken Hard Disk with a new one?

I payed money to buy a product of yours, and now i feel lost! I lost all my jobs, all my life is inside your broken hard disk. I'm frustrated too, because i'm loosing a lot of time for your guilty! I need a solution!! Don't ask me no more money to recover my data!! I SHOULD ASK MONEY TO YOU FOR WHAT YOU DID!!!
