Green Light flashes on plug in but goes out , seems to power up initially, disk sounds like its spinning then it just goes off.
If its an issue with the power source, does anyone know the the voltage or AC power source required for this? I want to purchase another to see if the problem is there.
The power source has no written material on it. Help would be much appreciated. Thank you

Same external drive, Maxtor Basic 640 Gb and same productnumber. I have the same problem too. I made a case to Seagate support group. See what comes out of it.

I had the same prob, with a power adaptor I think came with it HY-0002 12VDC 200mA.
0V on out side, 12V centre.
So, I tried a larger capacity power adaptor, 12VDC, 2A (0V outside, 12V centre), and it works.
I can see the pics I saved to it back in 2007.
