First, thank you for your time.
Next, I have a Maxtor Black Armor External HD. I believe it is working as intended. When I plug it in (first using Win XP and now Win 7), it runs a script and I get the screen asking for the password. Explorer sees and recognizes the HD. I type in the password and then the HD disappears from Explorer. Both Win XP and Win 7 recognizes the HD is still attached, since I can see when I try to "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" using the system icon.
I have run through all of the troubleshooting steps checking the power cable, data cable, partition status and drive status.
Have I mistyped the password one too many times? Is there a way to reset this? I have all of my data on it and this is the only place where I have a copy of it now. Thanks again.

P.S. The drive test option for the HD says the drive is fine. I was able to change the password, but it still won't show up in Explorer. I did use it to back up my internal HD. Could I have reached the bounds of the HD and ran out of space on the External HD?

id you ever find a solution to this problem, as I have a customer with the identical issue, once password is entered, the drive disappears!
