I think I found a way to fix this problem. At least it worked for me.
First, I deleted the Maxtor Manager software from my Imac. Then, I opened the user folder, then the library folder, then opened the preferences folder.
In the preferences folder, delete all the plist folders that say maxtor or seagate. The file name should look something like com.maxtor or com.seagate.
Then reinstall/run the software.
I think what happens is the preferences folder for the application gets bad data and stores it. When you reinstall the software, for some reason these plist folders stay on the computer and the reinstall won't work either. If you remove the plist folders, new ones are created when you reinstall/use the application.
