Maxtor Manager re-opening itself after already open when drive plugged in (Onetouch 4 Mini)

Hey guys,

I've searched for this problem but I haven't found anyone with a similar issue. When I plugged the drive in, the drive detects and I installed the Maxtor Manager software that was pre-installed on the hard drive. It's version 4.1.1.23. After it installs though, the Maxtor Manager software will open, and then subsequently try to open itself again. It will give the error "maxtor manager already open". That error message will open up many instances, and 30 of those messages will pop up in a minute. The only way to stop it is to unplug the onetouch 4 mini drive. Any ideas? Alternative software that I can use?

Re: Maxtor Manager re-opening itself after already open when drive plugged in (Onetouch 4 Mini)

Melonade,

Thanks for the reply, but I think my problem may be unique (hopefully not). My cpu usage is very high, about 100%, but that's because maxtor manager attempts to re-open itself even after it is running. I hope that I don't have to scrap this software and use something else.

Is there comparable software that is better? Cost isn't a huge issue but I would like something with similar functionality.

ok, right-click on it in the Processes and do "end Process tree".

what do you mean that it comes back?

Re: Maxtor Manager re-opening itself after already open when drive plugged in (Onetouch 4 Mini)

I am having this SAME VERY ISSUE!

I have a Maxtor Mini 80 GB Drive..... and I was fine with it. Never had any problems until I went and purchased the Maxtor One Touch 4 1 TB drive.. and ever since I tried to install and use that one.... even when it's unplugged... I still have issues with my MINI.
I CONTINUOUSLY get an error " Maxtor Manager is Already open" . Sure...I right click and hit close.... but as long as the hard drive is plugged in...... it doesn't stop.

I have some Wedding Images on this hard drive that I need to get off it ASAP and I can't.

HELP would be greatly appreciated !

try the thing I mentioned, while the drive is plugged in.  plug it in, and end the process and just go into my computer and try to get your data out

or just try it on a 2nd computer

Check to see if the button is stuck on the front of the drive.

Re: Maxtor Manager re-opening itself after already open when drive plugged in (Onetouch 4 Mini)

I'm having the same problem.  I have a one touch mini drive that I've had for a few years.  Never had this problem before.  I'm guessing maybe the software updated itself and Maxtor has a bug in the latest version.  It keeps trying to open the manager.  There is no button on the front of the drive but there is a light of course.  If you look in the processes tab on the Task Manager you will see dozens of copies MaxManager.exe running.  This causes a problem to say the least like the entire computer is unresponsive.  Unplugging the drive and restarting the computer clears up the problem but then an unplugged drive is useless.

To the wedding photographer-plug the drive into another computer that doesn't have Maxtor Manager installed and you should have no trouble getting your photos.  The drive is fine; it is the software that comes with it that is the problem.
