When i start the harddrive the computer stops completly and can't do anything.
I've lost my install cd and can't remember if had a password on it.
is there a way that i can see what the content is.i do not have any software at all.
if i turn it off my computer works like a charm.anyone got a clue what this is??
its some REALY important document on it.

Try it on another computer and see what happens.

Next time you get it working, make a backup of your data immediately.  Having just one copy of your data is foolish.

i found a backup of the files so those are saved ..but the problem is still there any clues how to open it.i can't format it if the computer can't find it.

try it on another computer to see if it freezes up the other

you can erase these drives pretty easily

1) open the maxtor manager

2) set a password on the drive

3) unplug it

4) wait 30 seconds

5) replug it in

6) pretend like you forgot the password and tell the software to erase it

then try it on the first pc again
