OK, just today my Maxtor seemed to me to be working fine until I look at it while fixing something for my PC and it was blinking rapidly it's light. I tried accessing it though a shortcut folder but my computer said it couldn't find it. My computer has an operating system of XP by the way.
So I go and disconnect it from the power but it was still blinking it's lights! I was shocked but realized it must be getting power from the Firewire??? Not sure... I then unplug it (the firewire) from the back of the unit itself and waited for 3 seconds and plugged everything back in. But when I plugged it in, the light doesn't turn on anymore. Went to "My Computer" to just to see if what I did worked and it didn't of course. I have it unplugged right now and I have many important documents kept here as backups incase my xp crashes on me for some reason. Please help me, I don't want to lose my files!
