Hi,
I have old Maxtor One Touch III 1TB ( EDA-9MP446-326) and one of its hard drives is broken. I successfully disassembled the box and tested both drives. One is fine the other not. Both are sata drives. Problem is that the box does not start with just one drive (windows / linux don't detect it - flash light is blinking like power save mode). Do I have to use 2 drives to run the box ? I tested some older sata drive (80GB) and it does not help.
What can I do ? The box it self is well crafted and I want to use it in the future.
Thanks
PS: its out of warranty ofc.

I tested both drives after disassembly in PC. One is running fine, the second is typical HW failure.
Do I really have to measure the resistance. When I mount new drive ( replacing the old one ) both drivers are spinning. When I run the box with one drive its spinning too.
My guess is that firmware / bios from sata to usb controller needs two same drives.

Hi,
I succesfully replaced two OneTouch III Turbos HDs with Hitachi 1TB HDs and a third one with Hitachi 750GB HDs. They are still in use. Once I put in two Hitachi 2TBs, but there were only 900GB recognized per HD by the box.1TB per (internal) HD seems to be the limit having 2TB total or 1TB in RAID1 what I am using.
