Maxtor One Touch is saving all old backup files

I have a Maxtor One Touch, I believe 100G, external hard drive.  I bought it two  years ago and it has worked great until now.  The last two automatic backups failed.  It looks like the drive is almost full (93.3G occupied, 2.29G available) and maybe that is why it is not backing up.  I looked on the hard drive and in the "1-Restore Point" folder, it looks like it has saved multiple backup files for every backup over the last 2+ years!

I was going to delete the old backup files, however, the backup files are of varying sizes and I'm not sure if the backups are cumulative - so that I need to keep all the old ones - or if each backup is an independent backup so I only need to keep one.  Does anyone know?   Thank you!

Re: Maxtor One Touch is saving all old backup files

Unfortunately if you do not know which backups to keep neither will we. Since you did not mention the type or version of software you are using this will all be a guess.

You might try moving the data somewhere else and setting up the backup again. Depending on the version of software there are other things you can probably do. You should check the KB or call Technical Support.

Re: Maxtor One Touch is saving all old backup files

I am having the same problem with a 300 Maxtor GB One Touch using Retrospect HD 1.1.  It does not seem to be deleting old restore points.  I have tried deleting them thru Retrospect to free up space, but it does not seem to be deleting them.  I also get messages from Retrospect saying that it does not have enough space to do the backup.  It offers to help fix the problem, but then does nothing.

Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem, I have a Maxtor Onetouch III and it is not erasing the old files.  It is not working at all know and not recogizing the files that are on the drive.  What's the deal with this software?

Re: Maxtor One Touch is saving all old backup files

Hi, I've got a Maxtor One Touch III also and it bogged down entirely within 3 months keeping old versions. I did clean up to keep 1 version and it wiped almost everything it had backed up, including most of a folder of zips. My problem is I have many many zips and I want to keep a back up for the zips plus extracted files on the Maxtor while being able to delete the extracted files on the hard drive. I.e. I want the Maxtor NOT TO DELETE the extracted versions even though they are delted on the hard drive. Any advice?

Does anyone know what to do about this problem?  My OneTouch III will not back up any more because it has saved all the old backups and is full.
