Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini Not recognized by my computer

Help! I have used my mini for two years as a backup system. Now suddenly this week it is not recognized by the Maxtor software. I have rebooted several times and updated my software but manager says there is no device installed. I have also gone to the support website and download the software update and it says I have the latest software installed. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using windows vista 32.

Re: Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini Not recognized by my computer

Is the computer recognizing the drive without any problems? Is it showing in my computer, device manager, and/or disk management with a drive letter and can you open the drive and see the files?

If yes, then uninstall/reinstall the software and that should fix it.

if not...then it's something more with the drive that you'll have to look into at that point.

To all users: If your data is stored ONLY on an external hard drive, then it is NOT a backup. A BACKUP is having the data stored in TWO or MORE locations. If it is only in ONE location, you don't have a backup at all. If the data is important to you, then have it stored in multiple locations to prevent data loss.

Re: Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini Not recognized by my computer

Yes, the drive is showing up in My Computer and I can open files from that location. I have gone to the Control Panel and tried to find the Maxtor program to uninstall it but I cannot find it. Any suggestions are most appreciated and yes, I do have another backup I just want to get this device working again.

Thanks

What software was telling you the drive wasn't being detected, was it the maxtor manager program or something else?

What OS are you on?

Re: Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini Not recognized by my computer

The Maxtor Manager was unable to detect my drive. When I went to reinstall the software it said I had an updated version but did not say what version, I can open the files in Windows explorer. I then went to Control Panel to find the software and uninstall it but I cannot find it in my list of programs and sadly I am still on Vista 32 bit.
