Maxtor OneTouch 4 PLUS 500 GB Firewire/USB Combo

[ Edited ]

Hello,

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place/forum are not but I need a bit of information, help, assistance. I have a Firewire USB Combo and the other day I got this Error Message saying: Windows had detected a problem with your External Hard Drive and has disabled it. I don't have a clue as to what that was or is all about. But, the drive will not run on the firewire, just USB. Has anyone heard of such a thing?

I am running, WINDOWS 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. AMD Phenom X6 1055T Processor, MoBo is a Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H, PCI Bus, 4096 MB Memory. I can't for the life of me figure out what Windows thinks they're doing. It didn't ask me if I wanted to disable it are anything. It just said that It was disabling the drive. Any suggestions, help, thoughts anything would be and will be greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,

Re: Maxtor OneTouch 4 PLUS 500 GB Firewire/USB Combo

Hello Again,

I found out by going to Microsoft that the problem was the fire wire drivers in the machine. I finally was able to re-install said drivers and the Maxtor one Touch 4 Plus is up and running like new. Thanks to you here at Seagate for allowing me to post this here.

Sincerely,

Re: Maxtor OneTouch 4 PLUS 500 GB Firewire/USB Combo

I have the a similar error message associated with my OneTouch 4 Plus external drive:   "external drive not recognized etc etc"   or "USB device not recognized"

You said the problem was with Microsoft, '"fire wirem drivers" in the machine' - what does that mean?!  Please be clearer in your response as to what specific action needs to be taken.    Sorry to say, that's no solution at all if no one can follow it

The support from Seagate is terrible...you can't get any support for their frequently malfunctioning drives whatsoever.  I've wasted so much time on this already.  I'm going to specifically ask Costco to remove Seagate/Maxtor products from their shelves.
