Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus Not Recognized in Windows 7

Hi: I just upgraded my operating system from Windows Vista to Windows 7. To do so, I had to do a custom install, which wiped out my programs. Now when I plug in my Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus, I see it in the Device Manager. But when I click on Computer, it doesn't show up, so I can't access any of the data. To test, I've plugged it into an older machine running Vista, and it does show up. I've emailed Seagate support, but it's been 24 hours and no response, so trying here.

Re: Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus Not Recognized in Windows 7

Disconnect the USB drive,

Go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager

Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Click the + sign.

Delete any USB Mass Storage Device (right click and choose Uninstall)

There may be several, one for every different USB stoage you ever plugged into the PC

Reboot the PC

Then plug in the USB drive and it will reinstall... give it time to work (2 min or more)

Re: Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus Not Recognized in Windows 7

I have a similar problem and I am at the point of deleting drivers as you suggested below.

I am concerned that with this new computer, I will delete a driver that I still need.

So far, I have only pluggd in the 2 sandisk flash drives and the One Touch 4 Plus drive which is not seen.

The Universal Serial Bus Controlers listed are as follows:

1) Generic USB Hub (There are 2 of these)

2) Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 3B34

3) Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 3B3C

4) USB Composite Device

5) USB Root Hub (There are 2 of these)

Therefore could you identify by the number above which drivers to delete.

The driver you suggested to delete is any USB mass storage device and to me, this would be all of them.

Thanks very much for your help!

I have the same issue as the other guy. I re-imaged tmy Win7 PC. Prior to doing so I backed up all my data. I can see the Maxtor on my PC but cannot access it.

if your drives are password protected, you may need to unlock them.  I had the same issue.  Once I unlocked it, I gained access.
