Hello everyone.
I was using my hard drive the other day when it suddenly became inaccessible. When I turn it on now (with the USB-cable connected to the computer) Windows replies with the familiar 'ding sound', but it doesn't start the scan of the files on it. When I click its icon, it says "not available".
SeaTools says that no tests can be performed on it.
I use Windows XP, ServicePack 3.0
The disk has a serial number; L501F1TG
What can be wrong?

Do you get a drive letter ?
If you do... Windows doesn't like corrupt drives.
If the drive letter of the external is G: or replace the G with your drive letter.
Go to START - RUN - type in box chkdsk_G:_/F_/R (don't type in the underscores... only to show spaces)
If it starts to run it will take about 5 hours to do a good check and fix.
If this work.. make sure you have the "write behind" off (google that)
errors are caused by weak power supplies, bad cables
