Maxtor one touch 500 showing unknown partition

Hi,

My Maxtor one touch 4 is having data problem and it loses partition sometimes. Looks like other users have reported this as well. When I use XP disk manager to examine the disk, it is showing 100GB+ unallocated partion. I deleted the primary partion and created a partition with unallocated space., it now shows it has 566.19GB of space. I formatted it and seems to be fine. Can you let me know why is that? Should I trust this size?

I have another one touch 4 500GB and it is working fine. It shows it has 465.76GB of capacity (which is expected). There are some difference between the two though. The power supply is a bit different. Looks like there are different versions of One touch 4 500GB?
