One Touch 4 partition issues.

Okay. Shortly after Christmas, I purchased a 500gb One Touch 4. I installed the drivers (I'm using Vista and ONLY Vista with this drive), backed up my files, and everything was fine. Today, I noticed that the M button in my system tray was red and it was saying it coudn't find the drive. I opened the Maxtor manager and it told me that I needed to update the software, so I did. I thought once it was done updating it would be fine. As it was updating, a dialogue box popped up and told me that there was no partition on my drive and asked me to make one. I really don't want to make a partition because I don't really need to. Also, I don't want to format my drive and then have to back up all my stuff again. Also, I was trying to put some files onto the drive at the time. I clicked cancel, the updates were finished, and it told me to restart my computer. Upon restart, I reopened the Maxtor manager and it said that I had a 2TB drive and that it was UNKNOWN. I opened my computer and it wasn't showing up there. However, the M button in the system tray was green, as if nothing was wrong. I safely disconnected my drive and reconnected it and surprise, surprise: nothing changed. Its never asked me for a partition before. Even when I was installing it, it said nothing about a partition. I've never had this problem before and this is the first time I've hooked up an external drive to my computer. Please help!

Re: One Touch 4 partition issues.

Wow. So I as I was writing the previous post like 5 minutes ago, I safely unplugged my Maxtor drive to get the SN and I plugged it back in and now it works just fine. What the heck?

Re: One Touch 4 partition issues.

No, I disconnected the power and the USB both times.
