One Touch Mini is asked to be formated under Windows 7

Ok, os my problem is that even that I have the Maxtor software ot make ir work under Windows 7 it asks me to format it, which will mean to loose all my data. I tryed to get it connected in an XP machine to see if it was related with the password protection but it is not possible to access it since it doesn`t show up in windows as a device.

Help!!!!
