Hello.
Any help please?
I have a External Desktop drive (ST305004EXD101-RK) and have a problem connecting to PC's and other devices that it did connect to previously. I have seen others also complaining about this problem also.
I think the Plug & Play has stopped working and I need it to work that way like it did when it first came.
I have tried the online guides you have but none of them work for my problem. Going into disk management etc drive is healthy, does have a letter etc.
Problem:
I plug the USB cable in to my PC and nothing happens, nothing in My Computer, It does detect it in Device manager but it doesn't give me a drive letter.
If I reboot the PC with the drive connected it does give me a drive letter. but if I unplug the cable then reconnect later it does give me a drive again.
I have tried the UVCView.x86 program but that doesn't detect the drive.
please ASAp or I will be returning the drive tomorrow as I need the plug and play feature that it came with.
Just a though? I have reformatted & deleted partition, could that have deleted anything to do with the plug & play?

Can someone tell me how to fully format / remove all data from the hard drive? I have formatted with Vista and now only have 465GB out of 500GB? I don't expect to get a full 500GB but surely should get more than 465GB?
When I try and safe remove the drive from my PC it says something is still in use so it won't safe remove, I'm guessing that there someting on there hidden in the missing 35GB?

Think I may have it working now? time will tell?
I powered the PC up in "safe mode" and did a few things so not sure what exactly fixed it?
I can only guess that it was something to do with not being able to safely remove it?
Posted, so may help others![]()

Just had a friends drive doing the same, the way I got it sorted as above but now I exactly know which fixed it. Its the "Safe eject"
I'm guessing that Seagate are very sensitive to not being safe ejected, after reading quite a few posts all describing similar problems just putting a different subject on them.
The fix that got "2" different drives working.
Maybe Seagate should look into the Safe Eject problem and supply some simple safe eject software as Microsofts is not very good.
