Questions about 500gb Maxtor OneTouch

I just bought a Maxtor 500gb OneTouch external hd. I was wondering...is there a way to easily network the drive with the other computers in my house? Also, seeing as how the backup software that comes with it is very lacking, would I be able to use another backup program in place of the included one? Last question, I promise: Since the drive is usable as a boot-drive...would I be able to use something like Windows Home Server on it to network it that way?

Yes you can use any backup software on the device.

Networking is about as simple as adding any other shared resource on the Local PC.

Windows Home will not install properly to a external device.

Re: Questions about 500gb Maxtor OneTouch

Hello,

You may be able to map the external drive or folder on the drive with a drive letter.
In Windows click Start, Help and Support and search key words "map drive letter".

You can use another backup application as needed.  If you have XP Pro Microsoft Backup can be used to backup to a file with the external drive's letter as the destination.  Microsoft Backup normally can be found by clicking Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools and choose (Backup).

I do not understand the third question, however, the information I already provided should help.

Regards,
