Reading from the drive directly on a Maxtor Shared Storage Drive

I have an Maxtor Shared Storage Drive (H01R300) that I need to get some data off.  I shorted the circuit board and can not use the unit.  I am wondering if the drive can be read directly either on Windows or Max OS?

I have tried it on a Windows XP notebook using the USB port and connecting the drive directly.  I also tried plugging it into my MacBook, but it does not recognize the format.  My understanding is that the OS on the Shared Storage Drive is propriortory.

Alternatively, can another circuit board for the unit be obtained? Or is there someone who can repair the board?

thanks

Re: Reading from the drive directly on a Maxtor Shared Storage Drive

If you search this forum for "TVS diode", you will find several cases where people have repaired their own boards simply by removing the shorted component.

Can you upload detailed photos to a file sharing service? One of us may be able to help you locate the faulty component.

We would need to see photos of the component side of the drive's PCB, and photos of the USB-SATA bridge board.

Good luck.

If the HDD works try a Linux Live CD such as Ubuntu.
