I have a Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus with Maxtor SafetyDrill software.
My PC is a Dell 8400 with Windows XP.
Recently my DVD drive was not working properly and apparently had a corrupt driver. I downloaded the appropriate driver from a free version of Driverguide – Big Mistake! My PC soon crashed and I couldn’t get into it.
I used the SafetyDrill CD to do a restore from a recent SafetyDrill copy to the original drive that just crashed, scared silly by the message “All data…will be destroyed…” The restore seemed to go smoothly, taking about 2 or 3 hours. However, upon booting, the Dell logo displayed, then a blinking dash appeared in the upper left corner of the black screen. That's as far as I could go. I then rebooted with f12 for the boot device menu and applied the Hard Drive Diagnostics which resulted in Pass.
As of now, I’m still without a working desktop PC. Should I install the original copy of Windows XP? If that does the job, will I still have easy access to all the peripherals like printer and scanners?
