Removing Maxtor OneTouch4 500GB

I am currently using my OneTouch4 500GB external hard drive with a laptop as a means of backing up my work.

I want to remove the drive and leave it at home so I can take my laptop to work with me, however, when I try to remove it via the 'Safely Remove Hardware' option on my tool bar, it says that the device cannot be removed as it is currently in use, however I have closed everything down and it still says the same.

Any suggestions? I don't want to just remove it and risk jeopardising my backed up work.

Re: Removing Maxtor OneTouch4 500GB

Yea you must have set the External to "best Performance" But don't worry sill no big deal just a little harder. Instead of using "safely remove hardware" you have to turn your computer off (NOT RESTART) then disconnect your drive w/comp. off no problem! you can also do a restart then use safely remove hardware. Either way no problem.
