I purchased two 1TB Seagate Expansion Portable Drives to backup my server's data files. One of them works great, no issues. The other has significant issues.
Some of them are:
Unable to disconnect from server - just have to unplug it.
Will not back up some files because they are too long (I haven't run into this message since DOS)
Receive the $Mfs error some of the time
Connect the drive and you can see the drive but no files
When you do connect to the drive and can see files, it takes forever to move from one folder to the next. The other drive moves without hesitation.
Part of the checklist before returning the drive is to run the Seagate Tools to make sure the drive is actually bad. If you don't and the drive is good, from what I've read they will charge you for this. When I ran the tools, the drive was not accessible.
I really need some advice on the next step. Any thoughts?
