Seagate 500GB Expansion drive issues

[ Edited ]

I have bought my 1st and only external in Sept 2011. Now within a year it has stopped being detected  (disk inside is not rotating) and also the LED is blinking continuously.

I had went to a service centre few days ago but they are not accepting it since serial number in the backside have become unreadable (photo attached).

On my own conscience I havent mishandled it ever to lose the warranty validity, but to my surprise they + the retailer too is denying the originality of this drive. ............... they are repeatedly saying i've mishandled it very much. Well i know preety much about handling a computer accessory. So I didnt dare to let it come in contact with any form of liquid also didnt dare to toss it like anything. It was either connected to my desktop/laptop all the time.

So I have three questions to ask.

1. How long does the 'writings' in the back remains readable if the disk is not mishandled??

2. If the disk is not an original one, can seagate track them down and force them to replace my drive???                                    My S/N is [ Edited to comply with forum guidelines ]; PN is 9SC2M4-572 and another no written: ST905004EXM101-RK; Invoice no: VCS/11-12/6768; However I have able to read the batch no present in the 1st row on the label after iuminating it under torch light:: 9SD2A4-500

3. Any guesses what the actual problem is????

                                                                                               Thanks in advance
