Seagate Expansion Portable Drive causes other hardware failures

When I plug in my Expansion Portable Drive to my Dell Vostro Laptop with Windows 7 64bit OS, my Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 functions eratically.  The mouse cursor jumps about on the screen and doesn't respond well to mouse clicks.  Or the mouse fails to work at all.  Disconnecting the drive cures the issue instantly.  What could be the cause of this or how can fix this issue?

Re: Seagate Expansion Portable Drive causes other hardware failures

It sounds like the chipset needs to be updated. Please take a look at this article:

Let me know how that works out.

Re: Seagate Expansion Portable Drive causes other hardware failures

I have updated the drivers/chipset with the latest manufacturer provided software and the issue is not resolved.  Behavior is the same.

Re: Seagate Expansion Portable Drive causes other hardware failures

I have a Seagate Expansion Desktop External Drive

[ST320005EXA101] and it does exactly the same thing.

If my drive is plugged into my desktop or laptop computer

for more than 10 minutes my mouse at first becomes erratic

and then quite quickly becomes completely unusable

(it becomes completely unresponsive)

However, the very second I unplug my drive the mouse

goes back to normal, is completely responsive,

and everything is as it should be again.

This problem is making the drive unusable.

Please help :'(
