Segate Expansion 1TB keeps spinning up and spinning down when display is asleep. Please help.

I have a Segate Expansion 1TB Model Number: ST310005EXA101-RK I am running OS X 10.6.8 on an iMac. When I put my display to sleep the Segate starts a cycle of spinning up and spinning down. It spins up for 40 seconds then spins down for 20 seconds and on and on. Has anyone any idea why this is so and how to fix it? i don't mind if it stays spinning up or spun down, I just don't want it constantly spinning up and spinning down.

The Expansion drive series is unfortunately not supported with MacOS.

Have you tried connecting the drive to a PC to check if it works here?

According to Seagate it is compatible with Mac OS [once it's been formatted for Mac OS].
See this link http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/212731en?language=en_US
Archived copy http://www.webcitation.org/69dq3rGbk

And see the PDF data sheet for the drive http://www.seagate.com/files/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/expansion-desktop-ds1675.6-1010us.pdf
Archived copy http://www.webcitation.org/69dsDEJiq

EDIT:may be I misunderstood you. When you say "not supported" do you mean Seagate couldn't be bothered providing any help for their Mac customers?

Its two weeks now.

Have you managed to look into it yet?
Do you think it will take much longer?

[A brief acknowledgment of my posts would be welcome even if you don't have any update for me.]

Wow, I've waited four weeks with out any response.
Not even a courtesy response to say "sorry, we cant figure out what's wrong."

Why would you say you'd get back to me on this issue and then completely ignore me?

So I was correct in my second post, Seagate simply can't be bothered helping their mac customers.

This issue has really been an eye opener for me. I don't know where I got this idea from but I thought Seagate was a 'premium' brand and reputable company that stood over it's products and looked after their customers.

From my experience here and from reading the list of other posts on this forum I can clearly see that Seagate's hard drives are not the quality products I thought they were

And its customer support is a joke.

Despite me informing you that Seagate sells its Expansion drives as Mac compatible, you are still incorrectly telling your mac customers the opposite. Look at this post from three days ago:
http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Other-External-products/Expansion-Portable-1TB-not-detected-Mac-OS-X-10...

Whats that all about?

Customer service my eye

Well in case you haven't guessed already, you have lost a customer, and I will be sure to warn all my friends, family and work colleagues about Seagate.

Thanks for nothing.

Hey redbetty, did you know that Seagate has a facebook page. So you don't need to limit yourself to friends, family and work colleagues.

Hi kenji57 . Thanks for the tip. I like your style.

I'm not on Facebook, but it's a good idea. Let the world know how useless Seagate is.

Really? Seagate has a Facebook page? I'll get right on it and check it out!!! NOT!!! Seagate's tech support must rate at the lowest when compared to other companies. Even Microsoft . . . They aren't too bad but I just had to throw that in there. If one has the gall to use anything Apple produces, the majority of vendors do a very poor job of supporting those customers. They just don't care.
