Undoing Partitions with Maxtor One Touch II

I have been using a Maxtor One Touch II to back up my Power Mac using Tiger. I originally created 3 partitions. I now want to use this external HD to back up an intel Mac PowerBook Pro running Snow Leopard and would like to eliminate the partitions.  I understand that reformatting will erase all my previous data.  Is there a way to undo the partitioning? If not, and I use only one partition, can it be formatted differently than the other two? I understand that the formatting for power Macs and intel Macs is somewhat different.

Use MacOS Disk Utility, under the Erase or Partitions tab.
