Using Maxtor Manager through Shared Network to Maxtor OneTouch III HD

[ Edited ]

Ok I have the Maxtor OneTouch 3 HD 200gb set up on the stationary Personal Computer [PC] tower, plugged into the USB port in the back. It's shared over the network. I also have a laptop with wireless that can access this shared folder as well as mapped it out on a personal letter, Z, for easier access.

The problem I am having is Maxtor OneTouch Manager is Unable to find this shared external drive.

Can anyone tell me why I can't adjust the settings so that it can point specifically to that shared mapped drive [or folder, either works] and back up my laptop? The PC does not use the Manager - there is no backup conflict, the reason the external HD is on the PC is because the laptop moves around the house according to it's owner's wishes... be it for playing music, watching videos in bed.... anything she wants.

Please help me fix this backup problem?

Thank you.

the manager is designed to backup local files. It does not have the ability to backup from or to a network location. If you want to do something like that you will need another application. I think the DiscWizard software will allow you to backup and restore to a network location, not sure about backing up from one though.

Alright - I will try to use the DiscWizard you suggested. Also a product of SeaGate :smileywink: Glad it's free to download to replace the Maxtor Manager...

We shall see if this works, Thank you for your answer. I didn't even think to look at OTHER programs from this company, thinking maybe they weren't designed for the Maxtor OneTouch.
