I want to move my iTunes library from my computer's hard drive to the Maxtor Mini 4 in order to free up space on my computer's hard drive.
1. I have already installed the Maxtor software. I understand that in order to use it as an extension drive I will have to un-install the software and just use it as I would a flash drive. Is there a way that I can skip getting the Installation window to pop up every time I plug it in?
2. Do I need to move the iTunes sortware to the drive along with the music files? If not, how do I get the software on the computer to find the music files on the external drive?
I want to be sure that I am doing it right before I proceed. I'd hate to delete all of my music from the computer's hard drive only to find that I have no way of getting them back. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Check the Common issues post at the top if the forum and look for:
iTunes - How to keep your iTunes library on an external drive
iTunes - Moving your Music folder
I would not recommend moving the file to the external disk if this is your only copy of the files. You should burn the files to DVD's to have a backup. I would recommend another backup on an external drive also.
1. Your drive should show up as drive letter. You should not have to uninstall the software to use the mini as an external drive. (read the manual to check)
2.No you do not need to move the Itune software to the external drive you just need to point to the library location.
Don't delete the music until you have it working externally and have a second backup.
