I strongly suggest everyone who is upset by this issue files a BBB complaint for false advertising, since that is essentially what they did here. I have done so and more complaints that get this news out in the public can only help them realize that screwing customers with lies is not acceptable business practice. They are even BBB accredited, which means they do claim to care about their rating. Here is their BBB page to file the complaint at:

Please see this post for the solution I found: http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/message?board.
This original post was more than a year before the above solution, so this may be old news. But to those facing issues with older OneTouch drives and Vista64, the above may be worthwhile.

Please see the solution I found at this link: http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/message?board.
The original post was some time ago, so perhaps this is old news. But for anyone having issues with trying to backup to older OneTouch drives from a Vista64 system, the above may be worthwhile.

Maxtor One touch 4 willl now work with Vista 64. After I reported this firm too the BBB I got an email from them saying they now had a solution and provided me with a link to download the software.
I tried this and it worked.

I agree! Just found myself in the exact same situation!
Seagate, come on! We need 64-bit support for the Maxtor backup drives! It's crazy not to support this! I know very few home users who buy backup drives but nearly all of my colleagues at work have them. Really bad call when more and more people are moving to 64-bit machines.

Thx! This works for my one touch iv mini with w7 64bit too.
But still there is no support for drive pass or the encryption tool ... ![]()
Is there anything planned - or available?

Bought my OT 4 mini less than 2 years ago because I needed the password protection security. Since bought a new computer with Win 7 64-bit. Ok so the latest Free Agent drivers support some of the OT but where is the security?
Reading the Moderator's terse responses in this and other threads leaves me disgusted with him (my self-esteem would cause me to resign my employment) and Seagate as a trading company that depends on its (returning) CUSTOMERS.
Mr Moderator, I want my money back. Please tell me how to proceed.
