I have three Maxtor One Touch II external hard drives and I've connected them using my firewire card.
I've installed the drivers from the disk that was provided but it doesn't contain the Maxtor 1394 Front Storage Panel Driver, it only contains Retrospect. Every time I boot up, my pc wants to search for the driver for them and the notorious yellow question mark is placed over them in Device Manager.
I've searched the net but the only links that offer to upload the driver are driver sellers. Is there a link where I can download this driver for free?

I found the basis for my answer in a similar thread regarding One Touch 3 drives and Vista. Their solution of downloading the Vista package and extracting the 1394 stuff out MIGHT have worked for me, but since I had WinXP Pro, I wasn't sure a Vista solution would be adequate. The solution I found was here: http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/maxtor/en_us/do
This file is in the Maxtor One Touch Family Downloads area, and is called: Maxtor One Touch Settings Update. I installed the file, and my 1394 Storage Front Panel issue was solved. Installing this file also resulted in a Maxtor OneTouch application being installed, but I guess that's a small price to pay to fix the problem.
Kudos to Seagate support for making this problem (apparently VERY common) so easy to resolve...NOT!!! I assume that most people who run into this problem are connecting the Firewire One Touch drives to PC's that never had the original One Touch software installed. Since these drives would typically be moved around to multiple systems (isn't that what lots of people want portable drives for?) it would be likely to run across systems that don't have the One Touch software installed.

Hi . . .
I recently built a SATA pc and no longer use the Maxtor drives. I searched the Maxtor site and the Seagate site for a couple of years but never found the driver. I also wrote several emails to Seagate and asked them where I could find the drivers but I didn't receive an answer. Maybe enough people wrote to them so that they came up with a driver for them. I bet it wasn't easy to find. Thanks for the info tho, and Great searching!
