Re: Xbox 360 will not recognise Seagate External Hard Drive

hi i recently had this same problem with the HDD not showing up.  it took me a while to find but you need to get a program called Swissknife. format the entire drive for FAT32 and you should be good to go. I tried formatting this in XP with Disk Management, Partition Magic, and even got Macdrive and formatted it in HFS+, but no luck.  there was one guy that suggested using this program and it is the only thing so far to work.  good luck!

Where did you get this information from btw? Monk22 (most recent reply to this thread) says he tried Macdrive and reformatted to HFS+ but this did not work.  Any idea why this might be?  I would hate to think that Fat32 is our only option.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Xbox 360 will not recognise Seagate External Hard Drive

After formatting to HSF+ (with Macdrive7) my xbox 360 recognises my portable external drive (ST902504EXB101-RK)

Thanks for the help!

Re: Xbox 360 will not recognise Seagate External Hard Drive

I used MacDrive8 and formatted my drive, made it into a HSF+ drive. While it does work on my Xbox now, it fails to work on my PC. This is ridiculous.

Use Fat32 if you want compatibility.

Alright, everrest, but someone posted this:

What exactly does this mean? Individual files cannot be bigger than 4gigs on HFS?

Re: Xbox 360 will not recognize Seagate External Hard Drive

4GB is the largest single file size for Fat32. HFS+ is limited to 8 EiB . Check the links for more info. The only time the single file size limit might come into play is when creating backups in Windows or making ISO images of DVD's. Why anyone would want this size of file on an Xbox drive makes no sense to me.

Their are 10 types of people, those who understand binary and those that don't.

Check the common issues for your answer or the package where it says 1GB is defined as 1,000,000........ Computers divide by 1024 marketing divides by 1000.  Add the directory and overhead space and your drive is fine.
