Hi brozy,
I just got here and was searching around for answers, and found your post. I hope you get some answers, but I wonder if there might be too many ?'s in one paragraph for anyone to answer completely. But what can we expect from a 4 year old?;<)
I will offer this- It sounds like you are trying to use the CD while your computer is running, operating system up on the screen. This CD doesn't work that way. It will run automatically in its intended manner if it is in the drive when you boot the machine, AND you are set to have the machine boot from a CD if one is present. It becomes a different animal entirely under those circumstances. You should practice doing that before you need it. If you can't get the CD to boot the machine, either your machine is not set to do it, which you should change, (and you should be able to unless it dates back to when CD roms were the new thing) or there is something wrong with the disc. But definely clear this up first. If you need help getting the CD to boot, come back here or check other sources.
No reason you can't do a safety drill every day, but you shouldn't have to. I don't yet understand some of your other questions, about the hidden or private stuff.
About reformatting- yes it will wipe the included software. I'm not sure why you are considering a reformat, but if you have to, copy all files and folders to another drive FIRST. I'd say not your boot drive - either a secondary HD if you have it, or a large enough thumb or flash drive, or burn a CD. No need to copy the contents of the BMR folder, that is where the data for your backups are. If you want to use the drive with its' software, you will have to restore the files it came with or it will just be storage capacity. I don't claim to know what other problems might result from or be remedied by a reformat, but I would sincerely urge you to hold on that until you are sure that is what you need.
There might be more answers to your questions in another reply I made within the last hour. I think the post I replied to was "backup questions" or something like that. It should be easy to find because it's recent. Good luck.
I hope there are others who will hop in here to help, but so far I have to say I am disappointed by the lack of activity here. If I am your best shot, (that's cool 'cause I'll be 7 next month) I'll try to help further - if you can sort out what is helpful from what I've given you so far, apply it to your situation and reformulate your remaining questions as clearly as possible.
Cheers
