connecting Onetouch 4 Mini causes computer to reboot

I had my Onetouch  set up originally on my laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium.  It is password-protected.  Now I want to connect the Onetouch Mini to my home computer to copy some files.  When I hook up the cables (power+data cable first, then power cable, then the data cable to the drive), the computer would recognize that there is a new hardware and begin the installation process.  However, the process can never complete because somewhere before completion of the installation, the computer would reboot.  It would then keep rebooting everytime Windows comes up on the screen.  There is no problem when the Onetouch mini is not attached to the computer, which is running Windows XP and has a Pentium 4 CPU.  The connectors are USB 2.0.  What is the problem and how can I fix it?  Thanks.
