After conversion from Vista Ultimate 64bit to Windows Ultimat 64 bit I removed the Maxtor software en installed it again. Suddenly I had two lines Maxtor software in the software list. Probably the recent fles where not uninstalled properly. One working and one (probalbu corrupt) I could uninstall the recently installed one without any problems.
But still find the previous Maxtor software in de list software. Uninstall using the windows uninstall tool didn't work. Checked among processes to disable setup.exe etc...but none of the exe files is active.Next deleted temp files totaly. Cleaned all the folders and files related to Maxtor I could find. Including hidden files. Can't find anything left?
But still can't delete the Maxtor files in de software list. Left or right I keep getting an error 1628. Want to get it cleaned before installing new software.
Using Windows install cleanup I don't see the Maxtor file from the software list in the cleanup window??
As said I want all traces removed before using the software again or us the drive as a local drive. Any suggestions what to do..??

Hi Guys
Solved this challenge by using revo uninstaller and forced the uninstall of the Maxtor manager files and registry leftovers. But the next challenge is to install the software because I apparently erased the software form the drive a couple of months ago.The spare version went with the old computer. I still wonder why it is so damm difficult to get working software for the Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus. They forced me to send an email which all the ins and outs but don't react or send a link. Why is it not available on the website?
Acting so slow they more or less force me to use the lite version which is available. Service should be available in 24 hours . I am waiting now for 96 hours.
See if that works in the XP SP3 conversion mode? Cross fingers..

NO it dídn't work. Maxtor One Touch lite software doesn't work with Windows 7 64bit . Got error after error. Uninstalled the back up software again.
I am going to clean the external HD (Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus) and going to use it as a simple external drive together with a Windows 7 64bit compatible back up software. Seems to be the best solution.
The Maxtor worked well connected to Windows XP software but I started getting problems after updating tot Vista 64bit. Not to speak of Windows 7.
Conclusion: very disappointed in Maxtor Seagate for the lousy service and not having W7 64bit software available.

Actually, I show that Tech Support sent you a response on 27Jan. Did you not receive it? Please check your spam filter to see if perhaps the message was eaten.
Thanks!

Your right. Got a reminder at tghe 27th that I had to reset something in order to get a respons from the helpdesk/custumer support. I did that imediately. The same day.
I got the software yesterday (thanks) but I can't find any info regarding the compatibility of the software with Windows 7 64bit system??
Previous attemps to install the Maxtor messed up the whole system trying to uninstall Maxtor and I re-installed OS. Therefore I want to know for certain that the software you sent is compatible?????
Please let me know? Thanks

Before installing the sent software I tried to format the Maxtor 1TB. That caused for whatever reason a lot of conflicts with W7 64 bit als well as NIS 2010. The drive got disconnected several times in the process freezing the system. Because NIS 2010 became corrupt I had to (un-) install NIS twice. Therefore I am very cautious to install the software pack I got. Although I liked the backup utility that came with the Maxtor and it did what it had to do ( Vista 64bit) without a problem. The challenge started after upgrading to Windows7 64bit. A clean install. Looking into the software pack ( a collection of components- which one do you want me to click to install the whole package?) I found one major software pack extension DMG dated 12-12- 2007. If it is Windows compatible as you said and how to set it up? As said Seagate sent me a ZIP file with a collection of components without a set-up file?

In the meantime I tried to use the Maxtor One Touche as a backup utility using the backupsystem from Windows7. Again it went terrible wrong. Drive went into hibernation, nothing could wake it up. System frooze, NIS went crazy. I restored the system again (3th time) and did the Maxtor in de box. The drive did what it had to do using Vista 64 bit Ult . But the Maxtor One Touch 4 plus, together with Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate is a bad combination causing a lot of problems and headache.
And on top of that Seagate sent me last week a software package without setup files and instructions how to handle it. Any suggestions, please?

It is obvious I am missing an executable file in the software package i got. Can't install this. Probably corrupt. Will send an email.
The problem with the Maxtor is that I still can't use it because it goes into hirbenation and will not wake up...? So it is in the box and when I don't get decent (W7 64bit compatible) software I will send it back to the supplier.
I don't know if this is a MS W7 or a Maxtor Seagate issue..but the only thing I want is a working external disk....
