Re: im in big trouble

Well, according to the blink status, that means the drive has a Drive State Error Condition. Here are the instructions it gives for

that condition:

My drive is blinking an error code.  What now?

Troubleshoot the error by following these steps:

  1. Safely remove the drive (if possible).  SeeAnswerID: 3207 for instructions.
  2. Completely disconnect the drive - its power and USB/Firewire cables.
  3. Wait 20-30 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the drive.
  5. Turn the drive on again.
  6. See if the rapid blinking has been resolved.

That's from

http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=184351&Hilite=led+flash link on this page:

  1. If not, run a diagnostic on the drive.  SeeAnswerID: 2826 for instructions.
  2. Also, safely remove the drive and then connect it to a different computer running Windows XP/2000, if possible (though Vista is fine for Maxtor OneTouch III and 4).
  3. If the drive is not detected in (My) Computer, follow the troubleshooting steps in our external hard drive troubleshooter.
  4. If all these steps fail, check the drive's warranty status at our Warranty Services Page.  You can create a defective product return order there if the drive is still under warranty.

 Good luck,

Re: im in big trouble

Agreed; sounds like the drive is probably done for, especially if you get the same thing in another computer.

Best of luck,
