I have the exact same problem with a One Touch III on Vista. Did you ever get a solution to the problem?
Thanks.

I discovered I could access the Maxtor One Touch if I turned its power on just before my task bar starts to load.
It is a pain to get the timing just right, but for some reason it is the only way I can access the Maxtor.
A very frustrating dilemma to say the least! I am in the process of organizing the OneTouch and then will be looking
at another alternative just in case this one is at the end of its lifespan.

I will give it a try. Do you mean that you turn the power on before the Vista logo and Vista sound comes up during the boot process or after the point after you log in to Windows but before the screen comes up?
Thanks!
