removing maxtor onetouch iii turbo drive from casing and physically installing in computer

I pretty much need to do this http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/message?board.id=warrantyinfo&thread.id=3

Remove the drive from the external casing and install it into the computer.

Does anyone have a link or anything to a tutorial to safely do this?

Thanks.

YouTube has a few...   Many just buy a replacemetn external USB case.

The Maxtor USB adaptor has a hard coded controller that lets it work with their software.

What type of HD do you have ATA or Serial?

ATA has many pins in a rectangular box and a 4 pin power supply.

Serial has a thin red wire for the controller and a thin wire for power.

If you have a Serial HD and your PC has no Serial connector.  They you need a USB to HD adaptor with a serial interface.

ATA HD.  You need to set jumpers on both HDs.  If they don't have jumpers... you are in trouble.

Some jumpers are set sideway, just to keep them in case they are needed.

There should be written on the HD were the jumpers go.

Usually there is a jumper for "single", another one for "master" and one (or non) as slave.

So with two HDs on the SAME cable, one has to be "master" one as "slave".

You can't just pull the CD-ROM cable as it's not an ATA 100 cable (sheilded)
