Fairly new har drive sometimes is on and some times off on it's own. Even when it's on and the computer recognizes it, and I start a file transfer to copy the files off it, it will produce a click noise and the computer tells me that the drive is no longer connected to the computer. The at some irregular moment in time, it will reconnect back to the computer on it's own, and again temporarily. Please.... I need to get the files off it...

I also have the same problem. I have turned off all USB-power save also to narrow problem down and put a voltage logger on the power to the drive, i.e. between AC-adaptor and drive... no power-dropouts found at drive loss. Despite this even the Samsung Diskmanager programs diagnostic "Complete test" stops by it self claiming that "the user has requsted the test to stop" after about 5 minutes. Short test says drive is ok, but I can see that "Potential sector fault" is rising and that the "Shock sensor" also rises by it self in SMART readouts. Please note: The drive is not moved or jarred between checks... it not even touched at all! It stand on a shelf by itself...
So my drive is on the blink no matter what Samsung dignostics say... It simple drops out and starts to blink rapidly and then "klonk"... lost connection... Problem is: How to RMA such a drive... ? It is of no use to me, or anyone as it doesnt do its job properly and I cant get an ERROR code or similar...
Trien on USB (v1), USB (v2), and USB 3... on three different computers and even made a full format... (no error it claims, but with some relocated sectors...)
Using Windows Home 7 64 bit... not that it matters...

I solved the problem on the advice of a Staples employee. I bought for about $40 a retialiPlus EF80 3.5" Sata External Enclosure.
I looked up on YouTube a video how to open the Seagate hard drive, and then popped it into the new enclosure, which comes with it's own power supply regulator and a super quiet fan to keep it cool (lacking in the Seagate).
Now everything works... Fantastic!
