Samsung Story 1.5TB problem

Hi guys,

I've got a Samsung Story Station 1.5TB. I have a problem with it, specifically the power input - the internal socket which recieves the end of the plug has come loose and needs fixing. I can't get into it to do it myself because of the proprietary screws. (At least I think they're proprietary - none of my 20 screwdrivers will let me in anyway!).

I've managed to make it work in the past by wiggling the lead to just the right angle / taping it down to keep tension in the right place but alas it has given up the ghost. I know it still works because when I move the lead around I'll get the occasional light flash when the connectors touch, but nothing long enough for me to back up what's on my drive.

I've spoken to a couple of people on live chat about getting it fixed and they have approved it for replacement - The problem is that I need to get the data off it first. Honestly, replacing the whole thing seems a little extreme when the part that needs to be fixed must only cost a few pence. Is there anywhere in London I could take this too to get looked at / anything I can do?

Re: Samsung Story 1.5TB problem

Hi Matt

My question to you is; "Are you worried about voiding the warranty of the HDD?" If you are not, perhaps crack the external case and get to the drive this way. You can then use the hard drive inside to get access to your data.

This is usually a quick fix option for guys with loose connection of internal power supplies. If you do need any info or help, please see give us a shout.
