It was a heck of a road trying to patch my two drives. See, I am using these drives in an NAS and I only have laptops now. My NAS stated
I borrowed a PC, but my friend didn't have a monitor. So I bought a VGA to VGA cable but then realized my TV does not have VGA input. I then found a friend with a spare monitor. Then I spent time trying to figure out how to get this borrowed PC to boot to dos. Found an old Windows 98 disk which got me a dos prompt. I put the patch F4EG on to a 3.5 " floppy. When I went to put my Samsung drives on Master 1 realized this mother board was IDE only! DOH.
So then I bought a SATA to PATA(IDE) adapter online and then tried to run F4EG from the 3.5" floppy after booting into a windows 98 startup disk but the PC complained that Exception occurred in module int_ahci.wdl, what ever that meant.
I was just about to warranty return my drives but then checked my post and saw your reply. So I gave your iso image a try. Easy as pie to download, burn (I have Windows 7 on my laptop) and run (took all but 30 seconds) I think it was a success!! It replied with "download was success"
When I put the drive back into the NAS, I got the same message again from the Synology DIskStation that I should patch the firmware.
"Samsung HD204UI disk detected. Write cache has been disabled to ensure normal operation. Please update the firmware of this hard disk and then you may enable write cache."
But this time I was able to enable the cache. I think prior to patching, I could not enable cache in the NAS (it was greyed out)
So this fact is convincing me that I *did* successfully patch the firm ware. Too bad the patch version number doesn change.
