Re: Samsung HD103SI pcb

@gustav, does your board look like this one?
http://www.hdd-donor.com/pics/1298756299.jpg

If so, then check the three largest components near the SATA power connector. Often there is an easy no-ost DIY fix.

Here is a similar PCB:

See http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/TVS_diode_FAQ.html

If the above components are OK, then there are a few voltages you could check.

See http://forum.hddguru.com/samsung-spinpoint-hd753lj-again-any-advice-t22666.html

If you need to swap the PCB, then you will most likely need to transfer unique "adaptive" data from patient to donor. In your case these data are embedded within the Marvell MCU, which makes DIY a very difficult proposition.

The following PCB supplier inludes a free "PCB adaptation service":

Be careful of those unscrupulous suppliers who will gladly sell you a board and then try to upsell you a "data recovery" service when the board fails to work (even though the board may be good).

Re: Samsung HD103SI pcb

I just saw a thread at Tom's Hardware where a user was able to swap a similar PCB without transferring the flash memory. The data recovery professionals don't seem to be able to agree when such transfers are required for Samsung drives (some drives need them while others don't). In fact donordrives.com doesn't spell out the requirements, either.

Anyway, if all you need is a 4R7 coil, then you should be able to obtain one from places like Mouser, Digikey, or Farnell.

Re: Samsung HD103SI pcb

This PCB's BIOS is integrated on the Main Controller IC. You should exchange the Main Controller IC to let the HDD be recognized. Move the Main Controller IC(the biggest chip on the board) is a complex job which need you have certain techique. Some electronics repair shop can do it.
