Re: SeaTools for DOS

At this point only SeaTools for Windows supports Samsung drives.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: SeaTools for DOS

My primary HD103SJ started giving ATAPI errors under load, specifically when trying to do backups with backupChain. A search for causes/tools showed a Samsung HDUtil tool, but all links went to the Seagate web site.

So I downloaded SeaTools for Windows. Passes SMART, fails DST. Tells me to use SeaTools for DOS, which may fix the errors.

Download and run Seatools for DOS. Takes 4 hours to run, taking my work system out of action for the day, It finds 97 errors. And then doesn't try to fix them, because it isn't a Seagate or Maxtor drive!

Come on, this is so misleading. If you are going to take the Samsung utilities away, at least fix the replacements first!

Warranty check says send the drive back. There goes another day at least, finding and installing a replacement, packaging, driving into town, etc. And it could possibly be fixed by a simple software mod to the tools?

Re: SeaTools for DOS

If it's a Samsung use ESTools, you won't find it by normal method as Seagate has pulled it down due to some of it's functions being a bit sensitive towards other parties (don't need a court case for infringement) it can however still be found in tool sets other users have posted up on the net,

I find ES fixes drives where Seatools identifies a bad one.

Re: SeaTools for DOS

@Cantbecanit, I can't find any reference to copyright violation or patent infringement in respect of ESTool or ES-Tool. I did find a statement from you where you said that "ESTools ... got removed from the net when Samsung sold the HDD side of things to Seagate, Seagate had to pull it as it contains something they don't have permission to use." What do you mean by that? Do you have any references of your own?
