I'm having a really hard time obtaining any information regarding the state of the supply chain for Constellation.2 drives. (ST91000640NS in particular). Clearly, the Thai floods wreaked havoc on the manufacturing of hard drives. I contacted Seagate customer service and was told that they don't have any news at all regarding product availability. I find this hard to believe, and a bit insulting.
A major Seagate competitor has a prominent update section on their home page, providing relevant information regarding the drive shortage and manufacturing challenges. Seagate's website makes it appear that everything is fine, yet the retail supply chain appears totally empty for certain drives. Wouldn't improved communication be warranted at this point?
For those of us that don't buy thousands or millions of drives a year, how can we find out more about when drives will become available? I really like the Constellation.2 and would be willing to wait for it to become available....but I obviously can't ask our network operations team to wait indefinitely.
What can Seagate tell me about Constellation.2 product availability?
