Help needed with Constellation ES Drive and the Encryption

Hi, 

 

I have received 2 ST3500414SS 500GB SAS Constellation ES drives back from a customer and have some questions regarding the Encryption.

 

Basically the drives were pulled from a Dell refubished server and sold on as we needed larger drives. Our customer returned the drives saying that they were unable to format/datawipe the drives because of the encryption. So after much struggling I find that you need the 25 diget MSID number, which i can't find on the sticker and I also dont have a clue how to access the drive to even enter the MSID. 

 

I have given up as I can't find any guides to reset the password, find what the default password is basically nothing that helps. 

 

the thing i find werid is that I can installed the drives in another server and build an array, install and format them without any problems. I even installed them in a Dell 1950 with an SAS 5 card and could install Ubuntu without any problems. 

 

I'm at a loss and just need a little help or pointing in the right direction..

 

Oh as they are Dell drives they also have a Dell part number - U717K
