ST32000444SS and Areca 1880ix problem

Hi

I am using 4 for the 2TB SAS drives with the Areca 1880ix-16 card. I believe there is an incompatibility with these drives (firmware 0006).

 

When I do large data transfers from other volumes after a random period of time (usually quickly) the transfer will stall down to 20MB/s. This occurs with Raid 0, 5, and pass through volumes. I have used an external expander and internal cables to connect the drives, and the controller has current firmware and driver. System is 2010 mac pro with 10.6.6 OS X. I have tested another array of Hitachi drives and they work fine. Problem is independent of source volume (occurs with raid card and mac-based volumes) No word back from Areca yet.

 

Anybody else using these drives with Areca SAS controllers?
