Savvio, Cheetah, and Constellation Enterprise Server & Storage (SCSI/FC/SAS/SATA) drives

These are older 9.1 GB UW-SCSI/SCA drives that I decided to pull out of the spare parts bin and install 8 of them in an external drive enclosure, all run by an Adaptec 2940-UW card.  The system see the drives and theye are found at the SCSI addresses I selected, but... they are very very slow.  Even the Adaptec firm takes forever to formate them.  Actually, I gave up on the formats, it was taking so long.  All this is working well using the same controler and an attached SCSI-2 drive.

I'm guessing these drivers don't like to share the same SCSI bus so I'm looking for more information on them.  I found the manual for the ST-version at Seagate, but nothing on the SX-version, plus Google can't find me any more information other than that other people have used these drives.

Can anyone help?  How are these drives different?  What exactly is this SX drive?

"SX" usually but not always means that it's an OEM model and won't necessarily work well or at all outside of its OEM configuration, in my experience.  Want to send me the drives' serial numbers and I'll look them up?

I had run into a problem using these drives in my XP machine with this same controller and at first all looked OK but when I tried copying files to them they got slower, and slower, and seems to have eventually stopped.  The low-level format (Adaptec BIOS) was very slow this time (Win98), much slower than it took to format an 18 GB SCSI-2 drive, but it eventually completed, after several hours.  So it looks like these drives are working now, but I am still curious about what the serial numbers can tell me.

Correction, the drive at ID=11 is an SX type.

Sorry, those serial numbers are invalid.

Are there part numbers on these drives?  P/N?  S/N?

Sorry, those were the numbers that Nortin Utiltiies gave me.  I guess I'll have to pull the drive and read teh nunbers off the labels.
