Epic failures in both DOS and Windows

Hi there,
One (or maybe both) of my HDD have started making loud constant whirring so i thought I should start here.

I have two harddrives, a Sea.gate and a Maxtor. Here are the drive details that came up when i clicked identify. (NOTE: the identity tests on both the drives failed)

Whenever I try SMART tests they always fail within 10 seconds. Short Drive Self tests take longer to fail but stll do. I have tried it in DOS and no difference. The Maxtor is 4 years old and the Sea.gate is less than 6 months.

Why wont it let me write sea.gate with out the full stop?
