The solution to this problem is to download version v1.1.0.21 of SeaTools which does not suffer from this problem.  I don't think it is available within the Seagate website, but is available elsewhere if you Google it.  You could also try SeaTools Enterprise, but I haven't tested this.

I am also getting this problem with the exact same error messages.

I had problems running an earlier version too - v1.1.0.19. Can't remember the error message then.

Interestingly it v1.1.0.19 would run okay in a virtual machine with physical drives connected. Haven't tried this with the latest ver.

OS: Windows 2K SP4

CPU: AMD Sempron 2600

Mobo: ASRock K8Upgrade760GX (SiS Chipset)

IDE0:0: Western Digital WD1600AVBB

IDE0:1: Western Digital WD1600BB

IDE1:0: LG GSA-4163B DVD Writer

v1.1.0.21 is not an answer as v1.1.1.0 adds support for USB sector repair.

On checking the version I have (which I thought was v1.1.0.21) it is actually 1.1.0.3.  The latest version is v1.1.1.0.  Although there are several download sites claiming to host v2.13.b these actually download v1.1.1.0.  It seems that SeaTools Enterprise is only for SCSI drives.  If all else fails I would suggest SeaTools for DOS which can be downloaded as an ISO image and used to make a bootable CD.  This can't scan USB connected drives though.

Re: I'm getting the following error when I run SeaTools for Windows: Not found Void ThrowWithExtende

Thanks gadgetman37 -that's what I found too.

I ended up using SeaTools for DOS.  It failed both short and long tests.  I still want to use the drive though -to split it in half for a Linux partition.  I'd like to get a recommendation for a non-destructive partition manager -but I'll start a separate post for that.

Thank you for your help,

Ashwin

The latest version of SeaTools for Windows is v1.1.1.0.

The latest version of SeaTools for DOS is v2.13b.

They were both released in December 2008.

I hope this clears up any confusion about the versions.

I've been getting that same error message on my next door neighbor's eMachine E566IR computer on Win2000 SP4 + .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 with a Seagate ST36811a 6.4Gb hard drive when attempting to run Seatools for Windows.  After I upgraded the OS to WinXP SP3 and ran Seatools for Windows again, it runs as expected.  The version I was using was 1.1.1.0.

Update: I tested several versions of Seatools for Windows (1.1.0.3, 1.1.0.9, 1.1.0.19 & 1.1.0.21).  Only versions 1.1.0.3 and 1.1.0.19 worked under my neighbor's Win2k computer.  Version 1.1.0.9 of Seatools for Windows that I found from a Packard Bell support site refused to install under Win2000 and requires WinXP [5.01.2600] or higher to use.  Version 1.1.0.21 (dated 10/2/2008) of Seatools [at least I carefully checked the seatoolsforwindows.exe file for Version info; something gadgetman37 did not do] for Windows failed to work correctly under Win2000/XP/Vista as that one turned out to be the WORST version made by Seagate.  Seems like versions 1.1.0.21 and greater have broken compatibility with Win2k.and runs properly under XP, Vista and higher.

For those who need Seatools for Windows version 1.1.0.3, it's still available as a Windows Installer package from this Seagate page.  Digital signature date of the MSI package is March 9, 2007.

In short, steer clear of version 1.1.0.21 as that version always fails to work.  Use versions 1.1.0.19 or 1.1.0.3 of Seatools for Windows if using Win2000.  For those using WinXP or Vista, use the latest version which is currently 1.1.1.0.
