ThinkPad T400 running Windows Vista Ultimate
Hitachi drive inside the laptop
Seagate FreeAgent plugged in via USB
I tried to run the latest version of Seatools but it got stuck at the dialog that says "Scanning for supported drives".
Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing the problem?
I can't seem to find much recent advice about the issue.

I don't know why it's doing that, but why don't you try to run the Seagate Manager diagnostic and see how that performs?

I have a similar issue in that I have a 500GB SV35.2 in Thermaltake BlacX external USB converter.
Seatools comes up and perpetually scans for drives. I have .NET 3.x installed, so that shouldn't be it.
Is there a better way to test a drive from a Windows laptop? The drives themselves don't come up with a drive letter in XP because it is a Linux formatted drive. I can see the drive in the storage manager.
The Freeagent utility doesn't even come close to recognizing it as the correct capacity so that doesn't seem like a good choice.

Unfortunately, my FreeAgent drive does not include that software. In addition, after searching on Seagate's website, I am unable to find the software.
