Seatools fails to detect my drive

I have installed seatools (windows) on my drive (seagate barracude 7200.9) and when I'm running it a green window pops up and shows "scanning for supported drives. Please wait..." and after sometime a error window pops out that shows "Fatal Error: Device Discovery....Void ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32IntPtr)".

Actually I have been getting BSOD errors often specifying paging error. I have contacted forums and get to know that the drive might be faulty. So I wanted to replace it as it is under warranty. But in the website it has been suggested to check the drive with Seatools before submitting it for replacement. Please help me.

Re: Seatools fails to detect my drive

Try SeaTools for DOS.

You could also try a more comprehensive SMART diagnostic. Look for reallocated, pending, or uncorrectable sectors.

HD Sentinel (DOS / Windows / Linux):
http://www.hdsentinel.com/

HDDScan for Windows:
http://hddscan.com/

See this article for SMART info:

Re: Seatools fails to detect my drive

I have tested the drive with sea tools. Health is 23%. Please check the attached report and suggest me whether to replace it or not. Thanks.

Re: Seatools fails to detect my drive

Your HD Sentinel report (not SeaTools) is indicating that the drive has reallocated 79 bad sectors (= 0x4F).

The number of uncorrectable sectors is 14,484 (= 0x3894).

http://www.google.com/search?q=0x3894+in+decimal

The values of the Current Pending Sector and Off-Line Uncorrectable have at one time dropped to their minimum levels (1).

HD Sentinel is telling you that your drive is seriously ill and should be replaced. However, you will need a SeaTools error code in order to qualify for an RMA. I would try SeaTools for DOS. If SeaTools doesn't detect your drive, then you may need to temporarily reconfigure your SATA controller in your BIOS for legacy or IDE compatibility mode. This will make your drive look like a PATA model.

Here are the problematic SMART attributes:

5 Reallocated Sectors Co.. 36 99 99 00000000004F
187 Reported Uncorrectable.. 0 1 1 000000003894
197 Current Pending Sector.. 0 100 1 000000000000
198 Off-Line Uncorrectable.. 0 100 1 000000000000
